Hunters Trailhead

Alaska Coastal Black Bear

HuntersTrailhead Featured Bear Hunt

AK100B

AK100B
* This is a semi-guided hunt. This outfitter is based on the inside passage of Alaska south of Juneau. The coastal black bear in this area of the state grow quite large due to the abundance of salmon in their diet.

* Bears are hunted by cruising the shoreline of the many bays and inlets until a good bear is spotted. Hunters then beach the boat and stalk in for the shot. The outfitter provides the boat and all the fuel for the hunt.

* Fishing equipment and tackle are also provided for those hunters wanting to spend some time fishing for the salmon and halibut that stalk the waters around the lodge. There is no added cost for this option.

* These spring hunts are very effective as the bears are roaming the shorelines looking for food after coming out of hibernation. They spend a lot of time grazing the new green grass growing in the tidal flats. Most hunters will see multiple bears each day.

* Hunters stay in a fully equipped hunting/fishing lodge. All meals are provided except for any snacks taken out each day. Hunters can choose which weapon they want to hunt with - Archery, Rifle and/or Muzzleloader.

* The Alaskan wolf season has been extended in this area. Hunters can take a wolf if the opportunity is presented at a minimal cost of $30. These wolves are wary and not frequently seen, but had the season been open, there would have been several taken in the past few years.

* Hunt dates are from early May through early June. Fall hunts are also available.
