Description
Kodiak Island is well known for its giant brown bears but is less well known as a fishing destination. This makes for uncrowded fishing opportunities. The island gets a healthy run of sockeye salmon running up its rivers and competition for these fish is minimal. A fishing trip to Kodiak Island also offers the chance to observe the brown bears as they too will be seeking out good fishing spots.
Tying into 4 to 8 pound sockeye with fly fishing tackle will provide a fight that will not soon be forgotten. Pound for pound, these chrome colored sockeye fight as hard as any salmon. Later in August they are joined by the Pink's providing an additional opportunity to fill the cooler. Dolly Varden are always present and at times are in higher numbers than the salmon.
A unique opportunity that this trip provides is a day of off-roading in side-by-sides. Spend the day exploring the island in an ATV stopping to fish the rivers whenever a good looking spot is discovered.
Trips can be custom made to fit your expectations. Strap on a back pack and spike out on remote river locations that are seldom fished by human hands or enjoy a day in a side-by-side with the kids allowing them to catch some of the feisty fish traveling up the river from the sea. Whatever your needs, a trip can be designed to meet your expectations.
