Alaska Coastal Black Bear on Prince of Wales Island

AK115BMore Hunts from this outfitter

Hunt Description Prince of Wales Island is famous of producing trophy class black bear. Bear squaring over 7 feet are typical on this hunt. This is a spot and stalk hunt which takes place by boat in the bays and inlets of this famous island and the Misty Fjords National Monument.
In the spring the bears gather on the beaches and tidal flats searching for food and new growth grasses and on the salmon streams and berry patches in the fall. This is a low stress but high success hunt. it is not uncommon to see 5 to 15 bear per day.
Hunters are met by the outfitter at the Ketchikan airport. After purchasing the needed tags and licenses they board the comfortable and well equipped boat where they will power to Price of Wales Island or up to the Misty Fjords Monument for the start of the hunt.
Hunters can expect anything from blue skies and sun to heavy rain and wind on either a spring or fall hunt. The main boat for this hunt has in enclosed cabin to get in out of the weather if needed. Setting crab and shrimp pots is common on this hunt and adds to the experience.
