Hunt Description
The grizzly bear hunts offered by this outfitter are unique in that bush planes are not utilized to access the hunting area. Many years ago, the state of Alaska restricted the use of planes in this area which has allowed the populations of moose and grizzly bear to grow. Now, some say that the area is over populated with bear. Access to these grizzly bear is via jet boat, Argo and in the spring, snowmobiles.
There are healthy runs of salmon that go up the many rivers and streams in this area and the grizzly bear have grown large because of it. This outfitter averages bears squaring over 8 feet with many of them meeting record book minimums. In the spring, snowmobiles are used to access the areas where these bears are coming out of the dens. Similar to cougar hunting, when a good track is cut they are followed until the bear is found. It is illegal to chase a bear down with a snowmobile but they can be used to get close and a stalk planned.
In the fall, jet boats are used to navigate up the rivers into the prime bear areas and then Argo's are employed to access the more remote locations. A fall hunt can be combined with a moose and caribou. For details on these other hunts see the More hunts from this Outfitter button above.
