ID125EMore Hunts from this outfitter
Hunt Description
A back country horseback elk hunt is the dream of many hunters. Pristine wilderness with uncrowded hunting conditions are becoming more rare these days but this wilderness Idaho hunt offers just that. An 8-12 mile horseback ride into camp is required. This puts you in the heart of a vast un-roaded wilderness that holds a healthy elk population.
To hunt this area typically requires that the permits be drawn. However, this outfitter is allocated enough permits that he is able to fill his camps without requiring his hunters to take their chances in the drawing where the probability of being drawn is not very good. In most cases, he will have your elk permit waiting for you when you arrive in camp.
A back country wall tent camp will be your home for the duration of your hunt. Horses may be used to access more remote drainage's and basins and for packing your elk back to camp and out to the trailhead. These aren't huge mountains, but hunters will need to be in decent shape as hiking is a must.
Archery hunts in September put you in the forest at the best time to hear and pursue bugling bulls. It is also not uncommon for the elk to still be actively rutting when the rifle hunts start in October. All meals and tent accommodations are included.
