MT135EMore Hunts from this outfitter

Hunt Description

Deep in the Flathead National Forest is the famed Bob Marshall Wilderness area. This wilderness is comprised of 1.5 million acres or 1,570 square miles of adventure and prime elk habitat. This outfitter has two different camps with one set 15 miles from the trailhead and the other being and extreme back country camps set near 30 miles from the trailhead. To access your campsite, you will ride horseback through stands of dark timber, over high mountain passes, along steep ridge lines and across clear mountain streams. Not only is this and elk hunt but its a remote adventure as well.

The Bob Marshall Wilderness can be hunted with the non-resident combination elk permits. These are the easiest of the permits to draw in Montana and coupled with an outfitter bonus point it is highly likely to draw your first year of applying but almost a certainty your second year. Should you choose, you can also add a deer and black bear tag to your pocket and hunt all 3 species for the same rate. There are lots of black bear in the "Bob's" and a fair number of mule deer but this is mostly an elk hunt. Most bulls taken mature 5x5 and 6x6 with some exceeding the 330 mark. Occasionally there is a 360 type bull spotted or taken from these camps.

Archery hunts begin in early September and run into mid October. This is the perfect time to be in the mountains if you want to hear the elk bugling with the hopes of calling a big herd bull into bow range. The rifle seasons will begin in mid October and run to late November. Though the rut will have likely wound down by the start of the rifle season, this is also be a great time to be hunting elk. The air is crisp with a frost each morning. The elk will be transitioning to winter habits and trying to bulk up for the migration to the lower country and the coming snows.
