Hunt Description

The main base camp for this bighorn sheep hunt is in unit 1 - a short 8 miles from the Yellowstone National Park border. Hunts in unit 2, 3, 4 and 5 are out of smaller "spike" camps but still very comfortable and well supplied. These are back country wilderness hunts and camp is accessed via horseback. By Wyoming state law, non-residents are required to hire an outfitter to hunt within these designated wilderness areas.

Camp will be accessed via a 3 hour or more horse ride depending on which unit is being hunted. These camps are staffed with an experienced sheep guide and often a second assistant guide. There is also a cook/horse wrangler. These tent camps are complete with cots and foam sleeping pads with a wood stove in each tent for heating. Every hunter is treated to three full meals each day so there is not going hungry here.

With 25+ years of hunting these areas and a vast knowledge of the bighorn and their habits and locations, this is a very high success hunting adventure. Hunters should also be ready to hunt. As should be expected, this is not a physically simple location to navigate. The steep mountains with broken rocky terrain will test a sheep hunter and their equipment. Good optics are a must on these hunts. Any bighorn ram is judged from a distance insuring that energy and strength is not spent unnecessarily pursuing a sub par ram.

Hunters out of these camps have enjoyed a near 100% success rate since this outfitter began operating in 1998. In the event that a hunter is unsuccessful during their scheduled hunt dates, the outfitter routinely schedules the last 10 days of the season to bring back any hunter that originally went home empty. They understand that these bighorn sheep tags are special and they make every effort to insure a successful hunt.

Most hunters will fly into Cody Wyoming where arrangements are made for airport pickup. From there, you will be taken to the trailhead to access the hunting area.
