* The tags are valid unit wide and hunters are not required to hire a guide.
* Unit 6C borders the famous and very popular Valles Caldera National Preserve. Giant bulls are taken from the Caldera each year. Hunters purchasing these vouchers are not authorized to hunt the Valles Caldera but you can hunt the preserve border.
* These tags are for the archery, rifle or muzzleloader seasons and hunters can choose the dates that best fit their schedule. The archery dates are Sept 1-14 or Sept 15-24. The muzzleloader dates are Oct 10-14 and the rifle dates are Oct 17-21 or Oct 24-28.

* Unit 10 has a large tract of national forest land with some BLM lands as well.

Unit 13
* Unit 13 is one of several units that does not offer rifle hunts thus making it one of the top trophy producing units in New Mexico.
* The famous Double H Ranch, managed by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is located in unit 13. Hunters purchasing these vouchers are not authorized to hunt the Double H but you can hunt near by.
* The tags are ranch only and hunters are not required to hire a guide.
* For the archery seasons, hunters can choose between 3 hunt dates. Sept 1-14 or Sept 15-24.
* For the muzzleloader seasons, hunters can choose between 3 hunt dates. Oct 11-15, Oct 18-22 or Nov 15-19. These tags can also be used on the youth only season Oct 4-8.
* The cow hunts take place throughout the month of November.

* Unit 16E has a lot of public land. A large portion is BLM "wilderness" and is best accessed via horseback. However, horses are not required to effectively hunt this unit. Season dates are Oct 21-25.

Unit 45
* These tags are valid throughout the entire area of unit 45 in north-central New Mexico. Hunters are NOT required to hire a guide with these tags.
* Unit 45 is mostly public land and includes the Sangre De Cristo Mountains and the Pecos Wilderness. Great access to the forest and wilderness areas exist.
* Archery tags are valid for most of September (9/1-9/22) while the muzzleloader are in early October (10/4-10/8). The 2 rifle hunts will take place in mid October (10/11-10/15 and 10/18-10/22). Camping is available throughout the forest service area.
* Though not required, this unit lends its self well to those that want to get away from the roads. Horses can be used to access the more remote parts of the unit leaving most hunters behind.
* Bulls will average in the 275 to 320 class though much bigger have been taken.

Unit 52
* These tags are valid throughout the entire area of unit 52 in northern New Mexico. Hunters are NOT required to hire a guide with these tags.
* Unit 52 is mostly public land and has fewer roads than the surrounding units providing good escape cover allowing some bulls to reach that older class necessary to reach their full potential.
* The muzzleloader hunt runs in early October (10/7-10/11). The 2 rifle hunts will take place in mid October (10/14-10/18 and 10/21-10/25). Camping is available throughout the forest service area.
* A 300 class bull is a reasonable expectation with much bigger bulls being a real possibility.

* Even with the reservation lands, unit 53 has ample public land including several large wilderness areas.
* The muzzleloader hunt runs in early October (10/4-10/8). The 2 rifle hunts will take place in mid October (10/14-10/18 and 10/21-10/25). Camping is available throughout the forest service area.
* A 275 to 300 class bull is a reasonable expectation with larger bulls being a possibility.
